FAQ
You’ve scheduled a session now what?
What to wear or bring to a photo session?
Props can help to show your personality and record the types of activities you are involved in. Be sure to bring some of your own props to your portrait session. Here are some ideas:
- Musical Instrument
- Leather Jacket
- Uniform
- Hats
- Sports Equipment
- Stuffed Animals
- Sunglasses
In Sepia or Black & White photos you will want to have a lighter color above the waistline, instead of a white shirt rather select a pastel or lighter color shirt.
- Darker clothing tends to slenderize
- Prints/Pictures of any kind, or patterns - no matter how small should be avoided.
- Avoid sneakers (white) - rather wear "dress shoes" unless you want a casual look (Jeans).
- Clothing below the waistline should be darker than above.
- For photos with more than one person in the photo, make sure that everyone's
outfit coordinates.
To help make this a memorable experience for you and to create a special portrait, I have collected some ideas:
Clothing
- Darker clothing tends to be more slimming
- Prints/Pictures of any kind, or patterns should be avoided.
- Avoid sneakers; dress shoes are more appropriate for this occasion.
- Clothing below the waistline should be darker than above.
- If there is more than one person in the photo, make sure that everyone’s outfit coordinates.
It is a good idea to picture the clothing that everyone in the photo will wear. If any one item stands out in particular, you can be certain that the same thing will happen in the photo.
Make-up and Hairstyles
Hairstyles should be kept simple, and preferably off the face. Hair falling down onto the sides of the face creates distracting shadows. Bangs that come down too low onto the face will keep light from getting into the person’s eyes – the most important part of a face. Avoid white eye make up – above and below the eyes.
